Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
For the past several months we have been praying that God would
have mercy on our country and give us what we need and not what
we deserve. We now know that we have been given what we deserve.
But let us not lose hope, "for our citizenship is in heaven,
from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ" (Phil. 3:20).
"Let us keep
living by that same standard to which we have attained…For
many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even
weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose
end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose
glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly
things" (Phil. 3:16-19).
Remember that
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
(Psalm 46:1-2).
As a shadow of spiritual darkness continues to creep across our
country, we must recognize the great opportunity we have as
Christians to reflect the glorious light of our Savior. He is
still our King and He has declared victory over the devil and
his schemes. So let us be encouraged:
"The light of
the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked goes out"
(Prov. 13:17).
Remember Paul’s
exhortation,
"Put
on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand
firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is
not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the powers, against the world forces of this darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly
places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you
may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done
everything, to stand firm" (Eph. 6:10-13).
Let us remember
what children of the King are called to be! "You are the
salt of the earth…You are the light of the world…Let your light
shine before men in such a way that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Mat. 5:13-16).
"In God,
whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not
be afraid. What can mere man do to me?" (Psalm 56:4)
