The Names of God

      My Song

"... the Lord, is my strength and my song..." Isaiah 12:2

Do you hear the Song?

It's the song of the Kingdom - a love song to the KingIt's a song of delight in all His perfections - His power, His beauty, His wisdom, His love.... It's a song of Truth - the Truth that sets us free.

"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted."  Psalm 89:15-16

This Song is far more than words put to music. It's the wonderful Word of God, the melody of a trusting heart, a  love-filled harmony between His life and mine. It brings a spirit of exultation as I look at Jesus, my King, and delight in His presence.

The Song flows from the heart of the King to the hearts of His people, joining our hearts in a timeless chorus of praise.

"I have set the Lord always before me," sang David, the shepherd-king who led the people in singing His song. "Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope." Psalm 16:8-9

David knew the source and the strength of the Song in his heart. So did other servants through the ages. When an overwhelming enemy invaded Judah, King Jehoshaphat trusted God and prepared His people for victory. And "when they began singing and praising , the Lord set ambushes" against the threatening forces and won the battle on their behalf.

Fastened to stocks in the "inner prison," the apostle Paul and Silas, "were praying and singing hymns of praise to God."  The sovereign Ruler of the universe heard. He sent an earthquake that broke their chains and opened the prison doors.

Nothing can block God's victory on our behalf, when He is the song of our hearts. That's why He wants to fill all His children with His song of Truth. It becomes a magnificent chorus, when all who are joined to Him through the cross sing it together in Spirit-led harmony.

So "let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Colossians 3:16-17

You are my Song, beloved King. By Your life in me, make my life a song that brings honor to you. Let nothing in my flesh quench your song in my heart.  Bring my life into perfect harmony with yours, then sing your wonderful truths in and through me, my Lord. "Put a new song in my mouth - a song of praise to my God." Thank you, precious Lord.
