WE SHOULD LIVE WITH A HEAVENLY PERSPECTIVE 

 

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.    (Colossians 3:1)

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS  (click on the underlined verses to read them)

No matter what we do, if we do not have love, we are nothing.  1 Co 13:1-3  (see  Love).

We should set our minds on heaven, not on earth.  Colossians 3:1-4

We should prepare our minds.  Our hope should be fully set on the grace to be given when Christ is revealed.  1 Pet 1:13

We should be looking for the new heavens and a new earth, the home of righteousness.  2 Pet 3:11-14

Our fixed hope on God should motivate us to live godly lives.  1 Tim 4:8-11

We should live godly lives, focused on the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our Jesus.  Titus 2:11-15

We should be ready to talk about our hope, even to those who persecute us.  1 Pet 3:13-17

Like Paul, we should strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.  Ac 24:14-16

By faith, we should eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.  Gal 5:5-6

We should wait for and hope in God rather than in earthly things.  Ps 39:6-7

We should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.  La 3:22-27

We must not be moved away from the hope of the gospel. Col 1:21-23

We should keep the full assurance of hope until the end and imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promise.  Heb 6:10-11

We must hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.  Heb 3:5

We should set our hearts on pilgrimage.  Ps 84:1-7

We should live as strangers on earth in reverent fear.  1 Pet 1:17

We should seek the city that is to come (the eternal city).  Heb 13:12-14

Because we are pilgrims on earth, we should be separate from the world and not be yoked to unbelievers.  2 Cor 6:14-17

We should not be conformed to this world.  Rom 12:2

We should not love the world or the things in the world.  1 Jn 2:15-17

We should not lose heart while fixing our eyes on eternal things and knowing that the troubles we have are only momentary.  2 Cor 4:16-18

We are a new creation, therefore we should look at others from a heavenly perspective.  2 Cor 5:14-18

We should show love to our enemies.  Vengeance is for the Lord to give.  Rom 12:17-21

We should not rejoice when our enemy has problems.  It is for God to deal with wrath.  Pr 24:17-20

We should give to our enemy when there is a need and let God take care of rewards and punishment.  Pr 25:22

We should bless those who persecute us.  Rom 12:14

We should seek the Lord, as well as righteousness and humility - then we may be safe in the day of God's anger.  Zeph 2:1-3

We should wait on the Lord and trust Him.  Ps 37:18-40

We should not fear the wicked.  Ps 49:5-9

We should not fear the reproach of men or their insults.  Isaiah 51:5-8

When we suffer, we should commit our souls to God, the Judge, in doing good.  1 Pe 4:19

Since our citizenship is in heaven - we should eagerly await Jesus.  Phil 3:18-21,  Heb 9:27-28,  1 Th 1:9-10

We should groan, earnestly desiring to have our heavenly bodies and be present with Christ.  Until then, we should make our aim to please Him (not ourselves).  2 Cor 5:1-11

We should hate this life and serve Christ - then we will be where Christ is (heaven).  Jn 12:23-26

We should not put our trust in earthly wealth, but in God who provides eternal wealth.  1 Tim 6:17-19

We should not glory about our earthly gifts, but rather that we understand and know God (who is in heaven).  Jer 9:23-24

We brought nothing into the world, and we will take nothing out.  Instead of wealth, we should pursue eternal life.  1 Tim 6:6-12

We should be patient for the Lord's return (like a farmer waits for rain), and we should strengthen and stabilize our hearts for the Lord's return.  James 5:7-11

We should be sober, diligent, resist the devil (steadfast in the faith), knowing that we are not alone in our sufferings.  1 Peter 5:8-11

We should be faithful during our suffering (even to death), and He will give us life.  Revelation 2:10

We should remember the suffering Jesus endured from others - and for us.  Heb 12:3  (Read how Jesus suffered:  Mt 27:27-31, Lk 22:41-44 Jn 19:17Is 53:1-12 )

We should live holy and godly, looking ahead to the new heavens and new earth.  2 Peter 3:10-13

We should serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.  Hebrews 12:26-29

We should not live  for things on this earth - even those things closest to us.  1 Corinthians 7:29-31 (Remember, though, we are still to love.)

We should trust God because He will be a stronghold for those who trust in Him in the day of trouble.  Nahum 1:3-8

We should love His appearing.  2 Tim 4:6-8

We should watch and pray and always be ready for the Lord's coming.  Mt 24:36-44Mk 13:28-37,  Lk 21:25-36Mt 25:1-13

We should watch and be sober so that the day of the Lord does not overtake us like a thief.  1 Th 5:2-11,  Re 3:1-6,  Re 16:15-16

We should be faithful with what God has given us.  We must not hide or ignore what He has entrusted to us.  Mt 24:45-51,  Lk 12:35-48Mt 25:15-30

We should help the poor.  Mt 25:31-46

We should deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him.  And we should not be ashamed of Him or His words.  Mk 8:34-38 Lk 9:25-26

We should endure hardship and not draw back so that we may receive our promise.  Heb 10:34-39

We should believe in Jesus who is the resurrection and the life.  Jn 11:24-27

We should conduct ourselves in fear knowing that we were redeemed with Christ's precious blood.  1 Pe 1:17-19

We should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.  2 Cor 1:9

We are indebted to live according to the Spirit (through which we gain life), and not to live according to the flesh (which leads to eternal death).  Ro 8:11-13

The parable of the rich man and Lazarus illustrates that we should take to heart what the Bible says and repent.  Lk 16:19-31

Like the criminal next to Jesus on the cross, we should believe that Jesus is Lord and that His kingdom is not of this world.  Then, ask Him for mercy.  Lk 23:40-43

We should help the poor, and then we will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.  Lk 14:13-14

We should live wisely, redeeming the time, understanding what the will of the Lord is. Eph 5:14-17

We should have a mind like Paul, who counted all things lost that he could know Christ and the power of His resurrection - so that he could attain to the resurrection of the dead.  Therefore, forgetting the past, he pressed toward the call of God.  Php 3:8-15

We should earnestly desire to be clothed in our heavenly bodies.  2 Co 5:1-5

We should be confident and walk by faith not by sight, knowing that while we are at home in this body, we are absent from the Lord.  2 Co 5:6-7

Therefore, we should make it our goal to please God.  2 Co 5:6-11

We should eagerly wait with perseverance for the redemption of our bodies, even though we cannot see them now.  Ro 8:23-25

We should seek insight and desire to lead others to God so that they, too, can be partake in God's righteousness.  Dan 12:2-3

We should keep our focus on the better resurrection - even to the point of receiving torture.  Heb 11:35

We should be ready to suffer for Christ.  Ro 8:16-20

We should love one another fervently with a pure heart.  1 Pe 1:22-23   (See Love)

We should stand firm, holding on to what we have been taught.  2 Th 2:14-15

Because we will have incorruptible, glorified, powerful and spiritual bodies, we should be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord.  1 Cor 15:35-58
